Shimron

Shimron is an archaeological tell in northern Israel that rises above the Jezreel Valley, displaying multiple settlement layers built one atop another. The excavation site reveals remains from different civilizations spanning thousands of years.

The site was first settled by Canaanites and later inhabited by Israelite communities, before Romans took control of the region. The layers show continuous occupation from ancient times through the Roman period.

Excavations reveal ritual baths and pottery from different periods, showing how people lived here across thousands of years. These discoveries provide insight into the daily practices and crafts of former residents.

Visitors can reach the site through marked paths from the nearby moshav of Nahalal and enjoy views of the surrounding mountains. Some physical fitness helps as the ascent to the hilltop can be steep.

A large mudbrick passageway discovered in recent excavations stands as one of the most impressive structures of this archaeological region. This construction reveals the building skills and organizational ability of ancient inhabitants.
