Vadodara is a big city in the eastern part of the Indian state of Gujarat, crossed by the Vishwamitri River. Many banyan trees shape the cityscape of this industrial center, which spreads over several districts.
The area changed from the ancient settlement of Chandravati to present-day Vadodara under the rule of the Gaekwad dynasty. Maharaja Sayajirao III introduced large urban projects in the 1880s, which gave the settlement a new form.
