Manas National Park, National park in Assam, India

Located at the foothills of the Himalayas, this 950-square-kilometer reserve contains grasslands, riverine forests, and five smaller rivers flowing through dense vegetation.

Prior to 1865, the lands belonged to the Kingdom of Bhutan until the Duar War, after which British India gained control of the territory.

The Bodo tribe maintains traditional practices near the park boundaries, including specific weaving techniques and agricultural methods that span multiple generations.

The winter season from November through April presents optimal conditions for wildlife observation, with temperatures ranging between 15 and 37 degrees Celsius.

The park contains the only remaining population of pygmy hogs in their natural habitat, along with rare species like the Assam roofed turtle.
