Bijapur District, Administrative district in Bastar division, Chhattisgarh, India
Bijapur is an administrative district in southern Chhattisgarh comprising around 234 inhabited villages spread across five administrative subdivisions. The district is organized through a system of local governance structures that oversee village and block-level administration.
This district was created in 2007 through administrative reorganization when it separated from a neighboring district. The change followed the establishment of Chhattisgarh state as an independent region.
Several tribal communities inhabit the region and speak languages such as Halbi, Bhatri, Gondi, and Dhurwa as part of their daily lives. These groups maintain their traditional customs and ways of living that shape village culture across the area.
The region has a sparse population with large forested areas and agricultural land, meaning travelers should be prepared for limited infrastructure in some parts. Planning travel and accommodations in advance is advisable for a smooth visit.
The district has one of the lowest population densities in the entire state at around 39 inhabitants per square kilometer. This sparse settlement pattern allows forests and natural landscapes to dominate much of the region.
