Kakatiya Kala Thoranam, Ancient stone arch in Hanamkonda district, India.
Kakatiya Kala Thoranam is an ancient stone arch in Hanamkonda featuring intricate carvings of lotus buds, garlands, and mythological creatures. The structure rises about 10 meters and displays birds and ornamental patterns across its carved surfaces.
The arch was built around 1200 during Ganapati-deva's reign as one of four matching entrance gates for a temple. It survived Jauna Khan's invasions in 1323 that destroyed other parts of the complex.
The gateway stands as a symbol of Kakatiya craftsmanship and appears on official Telangana state emblems today. Its image represents the region's artistic heritage and is recognized across government seals and documents.
The gate stands in an open area and can be viewed from different angles without restrictions. Early morning or late afternoon light best reveals the details of the carved surfaces.
The arch was originally one of four identical gates marking entrances to a Shiva temple, yet only this single one survives fully intact today. Its rarity makes it a precious remaining example from this period.
