Nameswara Temple, Pillalamarri, Hindu temple in Suryapet district, India
Nameswara Temple is a Hindu shrine in Suryapet district with carved pillars in its central hall and painted scenes covering its interior surfaces. The walls display elaborate frescoes that depict ancient mythological stories and show the skill of those who built and decorated it.
The shrine was founded in 1202 by Namireddi of the Recherla family and reflects the architecture of the Kakatiya period. It stands along the Musi river and shows the construction methods and artistic traditions of that era.
The temple draws visitors who come to observe regular worship rituals where families and local communities gather together. The spaces are decorated with offerings and flower garlands that reflect the ongoing religious rhythm of daily practice.
The shrine lies about 6 kilometers northwest of Suryapet and can be reached via National Highway 65. The drive from Hyderabad takes about 3 hours, and it is wise to wear comfortable shoes when exploring the grounds.
The walls feature a detailed fresco of the cosmic churning of the ocean, where gods and demons work with the serpent Vasuki. This rare ancient artwork has endured remarkably well over the centuries and remains visible today.
