Pakhal Lake, Water reservoir in Warangal District, India
The lake spreads across 30 square kilometers, bordered by forest-covered hills and valleys that form part of the Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary.
The Kakatiya dynasty rulers commissioned the construction of this lake in 1213 AD, establishing it as a water source for agricultural irrigation.
Local fishermen maintain traditional fishing methods at the lake, continuing practices that have sustained their communities for generations.
The lake remains accessible through regular bus services from Warangal city, located 50 kilometers away, with multiple daily connections.
The reservoir supports a diverse ecosystem where leopards, panthers, and numerous species of migratory birds coexist within the sanctuary boundaries.
