Katta Maisamma temple

Katta Maisamma temple sits along Lower Tank Bund Road and displays South Indian architecture with fine stone carvings throughout its walls and columns. The shrine stands close to the reservoir and is easily visible from the waterside.

The Patel family from Golconda built this temple during the Tank Bund development in the 19th century. The region's 6th Nizam visited the site in 1908 during a severe flood disaster.

The temple is closely tied to the Bonalu festival in July, when thousands of visitors arrive to honor the local goddess. The celebration reflects religious practices that have been maintained in this region for generations.

The temple is open year-round, though hours vary by day of the week. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon when it is less crowded and the light is better for photographs.

The name 'Katta' means 'bridge' in Telugu and refers to the historical crossing of water bodies at this location. The word connects the goddess's name with the geographical feature of the place.
