Andhra University, Public university in Visakhapatnam, India
Andhra University is a public higher education institution in Visakhapatnam, India, set across a sprawling campus with views toward the Bay of Bengal. Its many buildings house faculties of arts, sciences, engineering, and law, along with research centers and student residences.
The institution was founded in 1926 through a generous donation from King Vikram Deo Verma of Jeypore, who provided two million rupees and large land holdings. Over the following decades, the institution expanded into a full-fledged institution with doctorate programs and numerous research departments.
The campus houses the Sammeta Gandhi Bhavan, a museum displaying regional history and research work from local scholars. Visitors can also explore the university library with its collections on Telugu literature and South Indian studies.
The main entrance is located on Beach Road, with access to the central administrative building and major faculty blocks. Visitors find morning hours best for walking around, when pathways are less crowded and the sea breeze remains comfortable.
The grounds directly border the coastline, giving some lecture halls and laboratories windows with sea views. The institution received a 3.74 out of 4.0 score from the national accreditation body in 2023, placing it among the three highest-rated institutions in India.
