Jharkhand High Court, Appellate court in Ranchi, India
The Jharkhand High Court is the highest court in the state of Jharkhand, housed in a modern building complex with multiple courtrooms and administrative offices. The facility handles legal cases from across the region and serves as the final judicial authority for matters within the state.
The court began operations on November 15, 2000, when Jharkhand separated from Bihar and replaced the circuit bench of Patna High Court that had previously served the region. This establishment marked the creation of an independent judicial system for the newly formed state.
The court system incorporates traditional Indian judicial practices while maintaining constitutional principles through the appointment of judges by the President of India.
The court offers digital services including e-filing, case tracking, and live streaming of hearings, making it easier to follow judicial proceedings from anywhere. Visitors should check the entry requirements and dress codes before planning a visit to the complex.
A new court complex under development will be built across 165 acres and include an auditorium and specialized facilities designed for legal professionals and court staff. This expansion project aims to significantly enhance the capacity and functionality of the judicial system.
