Ahmedabad Lok Sabha constituency, Parliamentary constituency in Gujarat, India.
The Ahmedabad Lok Sabha constituency is a parliamentary electoral district in Gujarat that originally comprised seven assembly segments: Kalupur, Rakhial, Shaher Kotda, Khadia, Jamalpur, Maninagar, and Naroda. These areas spread across different parts of the city and its immediate surroundings.
It was established in 1952 as an independent electoral district and served voters until 2008, when it was restructured. This reorganization split it into two new constituencies: Ahmedabad East and Ahmedabad West.
The constituency covers diverse urban and suburban areas where different communities have coexisted for generations. Each neighborhood within its boundaries carries its own traditions and local identity that shape how residents interact with their surroundings.
The constituency spans multiple old and new city areas, some densely packed and others more loosely developed. Transportation and accessibility differ between various segments, so it helps to research which neighborhoods you want to explore beforehand.
Ganesh Vasudev Mavalankar of the Indian National Congress was the first elected representative of this constituency when it started in 1952. His victory showed how voters in the newly independent nation exercised their democratic rights during the very first national elections.
