Tollygunge Club

Tollygunge Club is a sports and heritage facility spanning roughly 100 acres with an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, and horse-riding facilities. The property features an 18th-century Palladian house, 67 guest rooms, multiple dining venues, and a fully equipped gymnasium.

The club was established in 1895 by Scottish banker William Dixon Cruickshank, who purchased an 18th-century house that had belonged to an East India Company official. The property carries forward this colonial heritage through its buildings and landscape.

The grounds host numerous bird species that inhabit the golf fairways and wooded sections, creating a living sanctuary within the city. Members and visitors experience this coexistence with local wildlife as a defining feature of the place.

The grounds are spread over a large area, so allow time to walk between different sections or arrange transportation to explore them. Early mornings and evenings are best for visits, especially during cooler months when the weather is more comfortable.

The grounds contain a botanical collection of plants from different climates that were introduced during colonial times. This green space preserves rare examples of the gardening practices that shaped the landscape generations ago.
