Barauni, Industrial town in Begusarai, India
Barauni is an industrial town on the northern bank of the Ganges River in Begusarai. The settlement contains a major petroleum refinery, a thermal power station, and various manufacturing facilities spread across the area.
The town was originally called Jhuldabhaj before merging with Phulwaria township in 1961, an event that launched its transformation into an industrial hub. Since then, major energy and processing facilities have established themselves in the region.
The population of Barauni increased from 19,786 in 2001 to 71,660 in 2011, bringing together communities from different parts of Bihar state.
Three railway stations serve the town: Barauni Junction, New Barauni Junction, and Barauni Flag, providing connections to major cities such as Delhi and Kolkata. These stations are the main transport hubs for arriving and departing from the area.
The industrial complex brings together an unexpected range of production facilities, from a PepsiCo bottling operation alongside fertilizer manufacturing and an ethanol plant. This mix of different industries within the same area is uncommon for the region.
