Calico Museum of Textiles

The Calico Museum holds collections of ancient textiles, embroidered fabrics, and traditional garments displayed across multiple galleries in a heritage building.

Founded by Gautam Sarabhai in 1949, the museum initially operated from Calico Mills before relocating to Shahibaug in 1983 to accommodate its growing collection.

The exhibits present textiles from different Indian regions, including court textiles from Mughal periods and provincial rulers between the 15th and 19th centuries.

Visitors need to make advance reservations for guided tours, which take place in morning sessions and afternoon sessions throughout the week.

The museum maintains specialized temperature controls and lighting systems to protect rare textiles, including pieces made with gold and silver threads.
