Shahpur Mosque

Shahpur Mosque is an Indo-Islamic religious structure in Ahmedabad featuring twelve central pillars that support a prominent dome at its center. The building measures approximately 59 feet (18 meters) in length and 38 feet (12 meters) in width with ornate minarets rising from its corners.

The mosque was built in 1565 by Shaikh Husain Muhammad Chishti, a leader of the Shahpur Qazi religious community. Construction of this project was never completed and it remains in its unfinished state.

The mosque incorporates Indo-Islamic architectural elements throughout its design, showcasing ornate minarets and detailed stone carvings across its facade.

Access to the site is near Shahpur Gate and visitors should come dressed respectfully as this is a sacred space. Those entering the prayer area must remove their shoes before stepping inside.

The two minarets display intricate stone tracery that contrasts sharply with the plain walls of the building. This delicate carved detail reflects the craftsmanship of the original builders in ways that go beyond typical patterns of the period.
