ATMA House, Office building with brutalist architecture in Ahmedabad, India.

ATMA House is an office building in Ahmedabad designed with raw concrete and bold geometric shapes as its main features. The entrance showcases a soaring hall with a ramp that leads upward, while exposed concrete surfaces dominate throughout the structure.

The structure was designed in 1954 by a renowned international architect for an Indian textile industry leader. This marked an important moment when modern western architecture first took root in the region.

The building shows how western design ideas were adapted to Indian needs and the local climate. You can see this in how the facade shields from the sun and how the spaces respond to the heat.

The structure has special features on the east and west sides to reduce heat and keep interiors cooler. An auditorium on the third floor receives natural light from above, creating bright spaces that visitors notice immediately.

The building shifts its forms dramatically: the entrance hall features sharp, angular lines, while the auditorium uses soft, curved surfaces. This contrast between rigid geometry in one space and flowing curves in another creates completely different feelings as you move through the building.
