Gavi, Ecotourism village in Pathanamthitta district, India.
Gavi is a village in Pathanamthitta district situated around 1036 meters elevation, surrounded by dense evergreen forests that form part of the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The area features forested slopes with clear streams flowing through valleys typical of the Sahya mountain range.
The village remained relatively unknown until 2012, when a Malayalam film brought attention to its forest landscape and made it an emerging travel destination. Since then, it has developed from a remote location into a place that draws visitors with intention.
The local people have maintained deep connections with the surrounding forest and offer visitors accommodations and activities designed around careful exploration. This way of living alongside nature shapes daily life and shows how the community and the environment work together.
The best time to visit is from October to May, when weather is dry and forest paths are easily walkable. Sturdy footwear and light clothing are important, as trails pass through forested areas and the climate remains humid.
Two rare trees known locally as nirampalli grow here, representing the only documented specimens of this species anywhere in India. These trees form part of the forest ecology and can be spotted by attentive visitors walking through the woodland.
