Kochrab Ashram, Gandhi Heritage Site in Paldi, Ahmedabad, India
The European-style two-storey bungalow complex includes separate kitchen facilities, activity buildings, and gardens across 5,000 square meters of land.
Mahatma Gandhi established this ashram in May 1915 upon returning from South Africa, making it his first residence and center for nonviolent resistance.
The ashram became a center for social reform when Gandhi admitted a Dalit family in September 1915, challenging existing societal restrictions.
The museum opens daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, with access through regular bus services from Ahmedabad city center and guided tours available.
Gandhi paid only one rupee per year as rent for this property, which his friend Jivanlal Desai provided as a vacation home.
