Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary, Protected wildlife area in Thrissur District, India
Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area in Thrissur District that consists of tropical forests, water bodies, and hilly terrain where nature thrives year-round. The landscape includes walking trails, viewpoints, and open spaces where visitors can observe wildlife and the surrounding woodland.
The area was established in 1984 to protect the water basins of important rivers and preserve the forest ecosystems in the region. This protection effort was part of a broader goal to safeguard sensitive natural areas in Kerala.
The sanctuary management integrates local community participation through organized bamboo rafting programs and guided forest walks.
Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and bring water, as trails can be uneven and the heat builds up quickly. The best time to visit is during the cooler months when there is less rain and paths are easier to navigate.
The sanctuary forms a continuous protected zone of 210 square kilometers when connected with the adjacent Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary.
