Mustafa Castle

Mustafa Castle is an architectural structure in Meerut that blends various building styles across its sprawling grounds. The property features a grand gate completed in 1899 and a main building that forms the centerpiece of the estate.

The structure was built in 1900 by Nawab Mohammad Ishaq Khan as a tribute to his father, Nawab Mustafa Khan Shefta. The elder Khan had been imprisoned during the 1857 uprising, making the building a memorial of sorts.

Rooms within the structure carry color-based names such as Basanti and Gulabi, each designated for use during specific seasons. These naming conventions reflect how the space was organized around the rhythms of the year.

The castle sits not far from the railway station and welcomes visitors throughout the day without entry charges. It is best explored by starting at the grand gate and then moving through the main building to see its layout.

The building incorporates clay brought from Mecca in its construction, and features imported furnishings and decorative pieces from London. Inside, visitors encounter pendulum clocks, antique chandeliers, and finely carved wooden cabinets that hint at the wealth behind the project.
