Nili Chhatri

Nili Chhatri is a temple with a distinctive octagonal structure and a blue-tiled dome that rises near Nigambodh Ghat along the Yamuna River. The building features several arched entrances that lead down toward the sacred water.

According to tradition, this site was founded by Yudhishthira, a Pandava prince, who performed an ancient sacrificial ritual here. The structure itself dates to the medieval period and reflects the religious continuity of this sacred place.

The temple draws pilgrims who come to worship the Yamuna River and bathe in its waters as part of their spiritual practice. The ghat serves as an active place for daily prayers and religious ceremonies.

The temple sits close to the Yamuna River and is easily reached on foot, especially from the Chandi Chowk area nearby. Mondays draw larger crowds of visitors, so expect more people on that day.

The temple walls are adorned with colored tiles in green, blue, yellow, and orange, blending Hindu and Islamic artistic traditions in an unusual way. This fusion of styles appears rarely at other sites in the city.
