Shahayadri Tiger reserve

The Sahyadri Tiger Reserve spans 1166 square kilometers across four districts, incorporating Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary and Chandoli National Park within the Western Ghats mountain range.

The Indian government established this conservation area in 2008 to protect Bengal tigers, with the first direct evidence of their presence captured through camera traps in 2018.

Indigenous tribes inhabiting the reserve's surroundings maintain traditional knowledge of forest resources, supporting conservation efforts through their sustained practices and expertise.

The reserve contains interpretation centers, multiple entry points, and organized wildlife safaris, with winter months from October to February providing optimal conditions for exploration.

The reserve combines diverse ecosystems of evergreen, semi-evergreen, and moist deciduous forests at the intersection of three states: Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Goa.
