Surajkund hot spring, Natural hot spring in Hazaribagh district, India
Surajkund is a natural hot spring complex in Hazaribagh district consisting of five separate water bodies named Surya Kund, Lakshman Kund, Brahm Kund, Ram Kund, and Sita Kund. The waters emerge at 85 degrees Celsius and carry minerals and sulfur from deep underground sources.
The spring site formed through geological processes that brought mineralized water from great depths to the surface. The separate water bodies were later associated with temple names, reflecting their significance in local religious tradition.
A Durga temple near the springs draws visitors who perform religious ceremonies and bathe in the mineral-rich waters as part of spiritual practice. The location serves as an important pilgrimage site for those seeking the healing properties associated with thermal bathing.
The site is located about five kilometers from Barkatha and is accessible by private vehicle via National Highway 19. Visitors should take care due to the high water temperatures and take appropriate precautions before entering the water.
Subsurface water temperatures at the site reach around 165 degrees Celsius, making it one of the hottest natural springs in India. This extreme heat is made possible by the region's unique geological setting.
