Ziradei Block, Community Development Block in Siwan district, Bihar, India.
Ziradei Block is a community development block in Siwan district, in the state of Bihar in northern India, made up of several villages and panchayats. The land is flat and largely rural, sitting on the plains of the Gangetic region.
The area became known across India after Rajendra Prasad, born here on December 3, 1884, went on to become the first President of the Indian Republic. His origins in the village of Zeradei drew national attention to this otherwise rural part of Bihar.
People in the area speak Bhojpuri, Hindi, Maithili, and Urdu in everyday life, and you can hear this mix in markets and village gatherings. Bhojpuri is the most common tongue and gives local songs, stories, and festivals their own flavor.
The block is reached by road via National Highways NH227A and NH727A, which connect it to nearby towns like Siwan, Mirganj, and Maharajganj. Getting around inside the area is easier with your own transport, as local services between villages can be infrequent.
The village of Zeradei, where Rajendra Prasad was born, sits within the block and now has a small memorial museum set up in his former family home. Visitors who make the trip there find a modest and personal tribute in the middle of ordinary rice fields.
