Vypin lighthouse

Vypin lighthouse is a maritime structure in Puthuvype, Kerala, featuring an octagonal tower painted with white and red horizontal stripes. The structure punctuates the coastline and guides vessels navigating through Arabian Sea waters.

The first lighthouse in this region began with an oil lamp at Fort Kochi in 1839, before the current structure opened in Puthuvype during 1979. The relocation marked a shift toward updated coastal navigation infrastructure.

The lighthouse stands as a marker of Kerala's seafaring heritage, connecting the region's ancient trading paths with modern navigation needs.

Visitors reach the observation platform by using a modern elevator, making the climb effortless. The views over the coastal waters and horizon are the main reason for a visit.

The beacon emits a distinctive pattern of four white flashes every twenty seconds, making it recognizable from far away. This signaling system allows ships to identify the location even during poor weather conditions.
