Kancharapalem, Residential district in Visakhapatnam, India.
Kancharapalem is a residential neighborhood in the northern part of Visakhapatnam, made up of several sub-areas including the Gavara, Golla, and Reddy sections. Small shops, housing blocks, and local roads run through the area, giving it the feel of a working-class urban district.
Kancharapalem was home to one of the first industrial estates in Visakhapatnam and one of the city's oldest locomotive sheds. These early facilities drew workers and residents to the area, shaping how the neighborhood grew over time.
The 2018 Telugu film C/o Kancharapalem was shot on location here, with around 80 local residents cast as actors. Visitors who have seen the film may recognize the streets and courtyards they walk through today.
Local buses and auto-rickshaws connect Kancharapalem to the rest of the city and are the most common way to get around. The Gnanapuram Bridge is a useful point of reference when moving between the different parts of the neighborhood.
The Gnanapuram Bridge is the oldest bridge in Visakhapatnam and still carries daily traffic across the neighborhood along its original route. Newer crossings have been built elsewhere in the city, but this one remains in regular use by locals.
