Chowdeshwari Temple at Nandavaram

The Chowdeshwari Temple is a Hindu shrine featuring detailed stone carvings throughout its structures, dedicated to Goddess Chowdeshwari Devi. The layout includes an ornate entrance gate, a central sanctum, and surrounding spaces where ceremonies take place, including a Srichakra altar for specific worship practices.

King Nandana Chakravarthy built this shrine during his reign, creating a place where spiritual life could flourish. The structure gained recognition as a national monument due to its historical importance and architectural merit.

The Nandavarik Brahmin families who serve here consider Goddess Chowdeshwari their principal deity and perform daily worship that shapes the temple's spiritual life. This practice has connected these families to the place for generations, making their presence central to how the temple functions today.

Visitors can take part in Kunkuma Archana ceremonies at the Srichakra altar and experience the daily prayer practice firsthand. It helps to dress respectfully and arrive during early morning or evening hours when most rituals occur, as these are the main times the temple is active.

The original deity statue remains sealed permanently behind closed doors, while pilgrims now pray to a replica that was created later to serve the worshipping community. This unusual arrangement reflects how the temple has adapted over time to continue serving its visitors.
