Sunkesula Barrage, Water management barrage in Kurnool, India

The Sunkesula Barrage extends across the Tungabhadra River with 30 spillways and measures 1,300 meters in length and 163 meters in height.

Construction of the Sunkesula Barrage was completed in 1861 during the British Raj period to facilitate goods transportation through the K.C. Canal.

The barrage influences agricultural practices in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states, supporting the livelihood of farmers in surrounding communities.

The reservoir created by the barrage has a total capacity of 1.25 Tmcft and covers a surface area of 60.32 square kilometers.

The structure maintains water levels for over 600,000 residents in Kurnool city, requiring a minimum flow of 70 cusecs to meet drinking water demands.
