National Expressway 3, High-speed expressway in Delhi, India
National Expressway 3 is a multi-lane high-speed road in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh spanning 70 kilometers. The route links the capital with Meerut and features wide carriageways with separated directional lanes for long-distance traffic.
Construction of this road began as part of India's infrastructure programme in the 2010s. The final phase was completed and opened to traffic in 2020.
The road passes through a region where traditional villages meet modern settlements, with traders and families commuting daily between Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh. Small temples and roadside stalls appear along the route, showing the daily life of people who rely on this connection.
Multiple entry and exit points provide access along the entire route, with emergency services and maintenance facilities positioned at regular intervals. Travelers should plan breaks at designated rest areas, especially during longer journeys between the two cities.
The construction allows for future expansion from eight to twelve lanes to accommodate growing traffic needs. This adaptable design makes the route one of the few flexible road projects in northern India.
