Mayodia Pass, Mountain pass in Dibang Valley, India.
Mayodia Pass is a mountain pass in the Dibang region of Arunachal Pradesh sitting at 2,655 meters elevation. The road winds through steep terrain connecting remote settlements, with dense forests and high peaks defining the landscape.
The pass emerged as a natural mountain route serving centuries of trade between different regions of Arunachal Pradesh. This connection allowed the movement of goods and ideas between hill communities.
The name Mayodia comes from Deori-Chutia language roots: Mayo means mother goddess, Di means water, and Ya means land, reflecting local spiritual beliefs. The pass area remains a place where local communities travel their traditional mountain routes today.
The best time to visit is November through March when snowfall marks the mountains and the road remains passable. January and February offer the most stable conditions, though travelers should prepare for rapid weather changes.
The region is home to rare forest animals including the Mishmi takin, clouded leopard, and red panda within its dense mountain forests. These species inhabit the same elevation zones that hikers pass through while crossing.
