Puliyannoor Mahadeva Temple

Puliyannoor Mahadeva Temple, Hindu temple near Pala, Kerala, India

Puliyannoor Mahadeva Temple is a sanctuary with a central tower and multiple shrines dedicated to different deities including Shiva, Ganapathi, Yogeeswara, Sastha, and Devi. The complex contains dedicated spaces for worship of Krishna and Naga deities, offering various areas where visitors can observe daily rituals and ceremonies.

The temple was founded by Chathamplackal Chonar Chettiar and has been managed for generations by Namboothiri families serving as Puliyannoor Oorayma Temple Devaswom. This continuous family stewardship has maintained the sanctuary's spiritual role over time.

The festival held each February or March brings people from surrounding areas who gather to experience traditional music, dance, and religious ceremonies. The temple serves as a community gathering place where these celebrations strengthen local bonds and spiritual practices.

The sanctuary is open daily for worship with multiple ritual ceremonies performed throughout each day that visitors can observe. Wearing comfortable shoes is advisable as the complex spans several areas worth exploring at a relaxed pace.

The sanctuary is known locally as 'Cheruthil Valuthu Puliyannoor', a name that reflects its standing among smaller spiritual structures in the region. This designation shows how local people rank it within their network of sacred sites.
