Kanakadurga Flyover, Transportation flyover in Vijayawada, India
The Kanakadurga Flyover is an elevated road that crosses the Krishna River and links two parts of the city. The structure extends about 2.6 kilometers and is supported by reinforced concrete pillars sunk into the river and surrounding areas.
The project was launched in November 2015 to improve traffic connectivity across Vijayawada. After several years of construction, it was completed and opened to traffic in October 2020.
The name comes from the goddess Kanakadurga, who is worshipped on the nearby Indrakeeladri Hill. This structure blends modern infrastructure with the religious context of the region and has become part of the daily visual landscape for local residents.
The road has six lanes and makes travel between neighborhoods much faster. Visitors crossing it should know that peak hours can be quite busy, while the views over the river from above are worth taking a moment to enjoy.
The structure was specifically designed to curve gracefully around Indrakeeladri Hill, showing respect for the sacred site. This careful planning demonstrates how major infrastructure projects can work around local heritage and religious significance rather than overwhelming them.
