Daulatabad Fort, Medieval fort in Sambhajinagar district, India
The fortress rises 200 meters above ground level with massive stone walls, steep staircases, and multiple fortified gates protecting the citadel.
Built in 1187 by Yadava king Bhillama V, the fort served as capital of different empires including the Delhi Sultanate between 1327 and 1334.
The fort complex contains temples from 100 BC, showcasing architectural influences comparable to those found at Ajanta and Ellora caves.
The fortress remains open for visitors throughout the year, with guided tours available and good road connections from the city of Aurangabad.
The defensive system includes curved walls, false doors, spikes on gates, and complex pathways designed to confuse and stop potential invaders.
