Sarnath Jain Tirth, Jain temple in Sarnath, India.
Sarnath Jain Tirth is a Digambara Jain temple known for a large statue of Shreyansanatha as its main focal point, along with carved footprint impressions decorating the structure. The interior layout includes prayer halls arranged around the central shrine, with decorated walls and carefully placed devotional elements throughout.
The temple was built in 1824 at the site where Shreyansanatha, the eleventh Tirthankara, was born. Nearby remains of an earlier Svetambara temple show that this location has long been an important destination for devotees.
The temple walls show painted scenes from the life of Mahavira, the last Tirthankara of Jainism. These images help visitors understand the key teachings and moments of this spiritual figure.
The temple sits southwest of Dhamek Stupa and is most easily reached on foot from Sarnath's main areas. Visitors should remove their shoes before entering the prayer halls and plan for a reflective visit.
The site is associated with four key moments in Shreyansanatha's life: his conception, birth, renunciation, and attainment of infinite knowledge. These four aspects make it one of the most complete spiritual locations in Jainism.
