Hveravellir, Geothermal hot spring in central highlands, Iceland.

Hveravellir is a geothermal area in Iceland's central highlands at roughly 650 meters elevation featuring multiple hot springs with water temperatures ranging from 18 to 39 degrees Celsius. The springs display colorful mineral deposits formed by the silica-rich waters.

The area appears in Viking sagas from around 900 CE as a key location along the ancient Kjalvegur road through Iceland's interior. This route served as a vital trading path and travel connection through the highlands for centuries.

The springs are tied to the legend of Fjalla-Eyvindur, an 18th-century outlaw who sought refuge here and left behind the ruins of Eyvindarkofi cabin. These remnants stand as a memory of people who once sheltered in this remote place.

Access requires a four-wheel drive vehicle to navigate the unpaved F35 road, which is only passable during warmer months. Basic accommodations including cabins and camping spaces are available for overnight stays.

The water here holds some of Iceland's highest silica concentrations, creating notably colored mineral deposits around the pools. This unusually high mineral content makes each pool visually distinct and shapes the overall appearance of the site.
