Auronzo di Cadore, Mountain municipality in Province of Belluno, Italy.
Auronzo di Cadore is a municipality in the Ansiei valley at 862 meters (2,828 feet) elevation among Dolomite peaks. The settlement sits beside a lake with views toward surrounding forests and mountain ridges.
The settlement developed as a market town during medieval times along trade routes through the Alps. Construction of the dam in the early 20th century created the current lake basin and changed the appearance of the area.
The local gastronomy features potato gnocchi with Auronzana, served with melted butter and smoked ricotta, alongside traditional Casunziei ravioli with various fillings.
Hiking trails lead from the town center toward viewpoints in the surrounding mountains. The paths are mostly snow-free during summer and allow for walks of different difficulty levels.
The Ansiei river runs below the town center and feeds the nearby lake basin. The water shows a greenish tint on sunny days from the reflection of mountain slopes.
