Ritten, Municipality in South Tyrol, Italy.

Ritten is a commune in South Tyrol, northern Italy, consisting of several villages spread across mountainous terrain above Bolzano. The area includes settlements at different elevations connected by local roads and pathways.

The area was documented in early medieval records and developed as a mountain farming commune. The medieval castle Runkelstein represents the site's historical importance as a fortified highland settlement.

The municipality maintains a strong bilingual character, with German and Italian languages used throughout its educational institutions and administrative offices.

Bus connections and a cableway link the commune to Bolzano with year-round access. Visitors should expect changing weather conditions and bring appropriate clothing for mountain terrain.

The area contains naturally formed earth pyramids near Oberbozen and Lengstein, created through erosion over thousands of years. These unusual geological formations create distinctive landmarks in the mountain landscape.
