Santa Maria Regina degli Apostoli alla Montagnola

Santa Maria Regina degli Apostoli alla Montagnola is a baroque revival minor basilica in the Ostiense neighborhood built between 1945 and 1954. The structure features a central plan with a large dome, and the interior walls hold frescoes depicting religious scenes created by artist Antonio Santagata.

Architect Leone Favini designed this building according to the vision of Father Giacomo Alberione, founder of the Society of Saint Paul. The structure was completed in just 9 years, driven by the community's need for a spiritual center dedicated to apostolic work.

The name honors Mary as protector of the apostles, and the frescoes inside depict Marian scenes that shape the religious life of the Pauline community. Visitors can experience this veneration of the Mother of God through Antonio Santagata's artwork throughout the interior.

The basilica is located on Via Antonino Pio and is easily accessible by public transportation serving the Ostiense district. Regular mass schedules mean visitors can experience the church in its active religious role, though it is also open for architectural observation outside service times.

The building holds the graves of Father Giacomo Alberione, founder of the Pauline community, and two other key members of this religious movement. This final resting place makes the basilica an important pilgrimage destination for followers of the order.
