Baptistry San Giovanni

The cylindrical structure rises 54.86 meters high and features alternating white marble and grey stone columns through its multiple levels.

Construction started in 1152 under architect Diotisalvi, with additional work by Nicola Pisano and his son Giovanni continuing through the 13th century.

The marble pulpit created by Nicola Pisano in 1260 displays detailed scenes from Christ's life and influenced early Renaissance sculpture.

The Baptistery receives over 600,000 visitors annually and maintains wheelchair accessibility throughout the main floor of the structure.

The double dome design produces extended sound reverberations, demonstrated every thirty minutes when staff members sing individual notes inside the building.
