Putti fountain, Marble fountain in Piazza dei Miracoli, Italy

The Putti fountain is a marble work in Piazza dei Miracoli featuring three life-sized cherub figures arranged around a central water basin. The figures, carved from white Carrara marble, display decorative details such as urns and shells from which water flows.

Giovanni Antonio Cybei and Giuseppe Vaccà completed this work in 1765 as neoclassical styles began replacing earlier baroque forms. Its creation fell during a period when artistic directions in Italy were shifting noticeably.

The fountain's three cherub figures have become a popular backdrop for photographs with the cathedral and tower in the background. People passing through the square often pause here to appreciate how the carved figures interact with the water and surrounding monuments.

You'll find this fountain in Piazza del Duomo, where it serves as a natural gathering spot for visitors exploring the cathedral and Leaning Tower. Its central location makes it easy to access and offers a good resting point while touring the complex.

Each of the three cherub figures holds different objects in their hands that symbolize prosperity and abundance. These subtle differences make each figure interesting upon closer inspection and add a layer of meaning to the work.
