Torre del Leone

The Torre del Leone is a medieval tower in Pisa that formed part of the former defensive walls and stands at the same level as the surrounding fortifications. It connects to an earlier gate of the same name and represents a key element of the historic defense system.

The tower emerged in the medieval period as part of Pisa's fortification system. In 1406 it suffered partial destruction during the Florentine occupation, when invading forces demolished structures symbolizing municipal authority.
