Tommaso Pedrotti-Tosa refuge, Mountain refuge in San Lorenzo Dorsino, Italy.
The Tommaso Pedrotti-Tosa refuge is a mountain hut in the Brenta Dolomites, set among rocky peaks above the valleys of San Lorenzo Dorsino. It offers dormitory and private sleeping rooms alongside a dining area where hot meals are served.
The refuge was founded in 1881, making it one of the oldest shelters in the Brenta Dolomites. It was built at a time when climbing in this range was growing fast and travelers needed fixed stopping points along the routes.
The refuge reflects a shared tradition of mountaineering between Italian and German communities, visible in how it welcomes visitors from both regions and cultures. This cross-border connection shapes the way people experience and use the shelter as a meeting place in the mountains.
The hut is most easily reached between June and September, when the mountain trails are free of snow and in good condition. Solid footwear is needed for all routes leading to it, and warm layers are a good idea given how quickly the weather can change at this altitude.
The refuge sits along the Bocchette route, one of the most famous via ferrata paths in the Brenta, where walkers move across exposed rock ledges with the help of fixed cables. Starting early in the morning gives a clear advantage, as the rock faces catch the light before other groups arrive.
