Cime du Gélas, Summit in Maritime Alps, France and Italy.

The Gélas reaches an elevation of 3,143 meters and features two distinct peaks divided by a deep gorge in the Maritime Alps range.

The first recorded climb of the Gélas took place in 1864 when Paolo di Saint-Robert reached the summit through the challenging alpine terrain.

The northern summit displays a cross erected by priests from Cuneo, representing the religious connections between French and Italian valleys.

Bivacco Moncalieri mountain shelter, located 995 meters northeast of the peak, provides accommodation for climbers attempting the technical ascent.

The glaciers that previously covered the northern slopes of the Gélas gave the peak its name and continue to decrease since the 20th century.
