Belluno Cathedral San Martino, Renaissance cathedral and minor basilica in Belluno, Italy
Belluno Cathedral San Martino is a Renaissance church in Belluno featuring a stone facade divided into three vertical sections. A central rose window depicting Saint Martin and Gothic windows below create the main visual divisions of the front.
Construction began in 1517 under the direction of architect Tullio Lombardo. The dome was completed 1756, reflecting a lengthy building process that spanned over two centuries.
The cathedral is named after Saint Martin, whose image appears in the rose window at its center. Inside, frescoes and paintings created by local artists over centuries reflect the artistic tastes of different generations.
The building sits in Piazza Duomo at the heart of Belluno and is easily reached on foot. As the main church of the Diocese of Belluno-Feltre, it remains active and open to visitors during standard hours.
The bell tower rises more than 67 meters tall and is topped by a copper-covered wooden angel created by Andrea Brustolon. This Baroque spire is visible from around the city and serves as a landmark for the town.
