Tosio Martinengo Gallery, Art museum in historical center of Brescia, Italy
The Tosio Martinengo Gallery occupies the Palazzo Martinengo da Barco, a 16th-century palace that houses an art collection displayed across numerous rooms. The museum presents works spanning from medieval times through the 18th century, offering visitors a journey through different artistic periods.
The collection started from a private donation in the 19th century and was later enlarged by additional acquisitions from aristocratic families. The building itself dates back several centuries and became an art museum through these successive additions.
The collection features Renaissance masterpieces by Raphael, including Christ Blessing, alongside works by local artists Vincenzo Foppa and Lorenzo Lotto.
The building is accessible throughout with level access and well-organized pathways between rooms. Taking your time to wander through each space helps you appreciate the full range of works on display.
Following a nine-year renovation completed in 2018, the gallery displays artworks chronologically from the 13th to 18th centuries in color-coordinated rooms.
