Arco di Sant'Ercolano, Medieval city gate and arch near Sant'Ercolano church, Perugia, Italy

The stone structure features a pointed arch design with a carved lion figure positioned above the entrance passage.

Originally constructed in the 3rd century BC as part of Perugia's Etruscan walls, the gate underwent modifications in the Middle Ages when its round arch became pointed.

The gate displays a 13th-century lion sculpture on its outer facade, representing the Guelph faction that controlled Perugia during medieval times.

Located near the Pincetto metro station, the arch stands at the top of Sant'Ercolano stairs, marking one of the ancient entrances to Perugia's historical center.

The structure changed its name from Porta Cornea to Arco di Sant'Ercolano, reflecting its connection to the adjacent church and surrounding neighborhood.
