Lago Maulazzo, lake in Sicily
Lago Maulazzo is an artificial reservoir in the town of Alcara li Fusi in the Nebrodi Mountains. It has a round shape, covers about 5 hectares, and is surrounded by old beech forests and green hills.
The lake was built as an artificial basin to collect water and control water flow in the region. It became an important water supply for farming and daily use by the local community.
The name Maulazzo comes from old local words passed down by shepherds and residents of the area. The lake is a place where local people spend their free time and maintain their connection to the natural surroundings.
The lake has little infrastructure, so visitors should bring what they need for their stay. The paths around the lake are simple and suitable for all ages, with easy trails leading into nearby woods and hills.
The lake sits at the base of Monte Soro, the highest peak in the Nebrodi Mountains, at about 1450 meters elevation. This location creates a cool and calm microclimate amplified by the old beech forests surrounding it.
