Sacrario del Martinetto, Memorial and park in Turin, Italy
The Sacrario del Martinetto is a memorial site and park located at the intersection of Corso Svizzera and Corso Appio Claudio in Turin, combining green space with a dedicated exhibition area. The site features landscaped grounds and a museum section that presents historical information about events that took place here.
The site was established as a shooting range in 1883 and later became an execution ground during World War II between 1943 and 1945. More than 60 resistance fighters were killed here during this period.
The memorial displays names of people from different walks of life who died here, showing how the resistance movement drew from many social backgrounds. Visitors can read these names and learn about the ordinary people who took part in the struggle.
The grounds are freely accessible at any time, though the exhibition section operates during specific visiting hours. Pathways are easy to walk and the location is easily reached by public transport.
The grounds preserve the memory of eight members of the Piedmont regional military committee who were executed in 1944 and are honored each year on April 5. This particular focus underscores the local significance of these fighters in the history of resistance.
