Scuola del Carmine, Gothic oratory in Padua, Italy.
Scuola del Carmine is a Gothic oratory in Padua with a rectangular layout and elevated altar space. The interior is organized by columns and arches that divide the space into three distinct sections.
The building was created as an oratory for a confraternity and underwent renovation after damage in the early 1500s. The reconstruction made it possible to connect directly to the nearby basilica.
The frescoes show scenes from the life of Mary and were painted by Paduan artists who each brought their own skill to these walls. The quality of their work reflects how important this gathering place was to the people who used it.
Access to this space is limited and available only on specific days. Check ahead for exact visiting hours since it is not open every day.
In the late 1600s, two new doorways were cut into the south wall and the original entrance area was converted into a sacristy. This change shows how the space adapted to new needs over time.
