Torre Diamante, Steel skyscraper in Porta Nuova district, Milan, Italy
Torre Diamante is a 140-metre steel office tower between Viale della Liberazione and Via Galilei in Milan's Centro Direzionale. Its perimeter columns lean from the vertical, and the faceted glass facade narrows toward the top, where a green BNP Paribas logo and white lettering are mounted. Two low buildings, the Diamantini, continue the complex along the street.
Construction began in January 2010 as part of the Porta Nuova urban renewal initiative and finished in September 2012. The tower emerged as a modern landmark marking the district's transformation.
The tower's name comes from its faceted shape, which produces changing reflections like a cut diamond. Its top is lit in colours such as blue or red, and the building hosted events of the Fuorisalone 2013. It also served as the main venue for the second season of the television programme The Apprentice.
The tower stands at the corner of Viale della Liberazione and Via Galilei, reachable from Repubblica, Gioia and Repubblica metro stations. The Diamantini flank it along Viale della Liberazione, so the group is best read on foot from that side. The top lighting changes colour, for instance blue or red, so it is worth passing after dark.
The facade uses laminated glass instead of tempered glass, giving the tower a more uniform and subtle appearance than typical modern high-rises. This material choice creates a seamless visual effect across the building's surface.
